Patience is a virtue.

June 30, 2012

I know, I know, I KNOW...the contribution form is down. I know.

It's all part of a larger move to integrate things with the upcoming CLGVN launch (which will be soon, time permitting) and the new contribution form will be part of the new VN system. Don't worry, jingles will still be posted on here, nothing's going to be lost, blah blah blah.

There's still things I need to make up to date on here, so bear with me, guys!

Two Things

April 25, 2012

Hey guys.

In case you didn't know, I've implemented a new category sorting feature on here, so if you feel that the regular catalog page is too much, just click one of the sorting options, then bam!

Also, I would like to let you know that we are in the process of adding non-logo jingles to the site, beginning with the theme from one of my new favorite shows, "Doctor Who"

A revamp to the contribution form is underway, so bear with me as I work on getting that up and underway (might be a bit, because my finals are right around the corner...eek!)

That's all I've got for now...until next time! Remember, comments are always welcome! :) (just keep it civil haha)

No, we're not dead.

March 11, 2012

I know it's been a while since you've seen anything new on here, but that doesn't mean we've gone anywhere. It just means that we're busy with other things.

For instance, I'm a full time student here and a service desk assistant here, not to mention I've got other projects (whether for school or for the Community) that I've got to get out of the way. Remember, nerds are people too.

Don't think I've forgotten about y'all, though. 2012 is the year that two Hollywood film studios are turning 100 years old, and I've been on the lookout for the new jingles. And yes, I've got them.

This spring break, I'll be working on getting new additions on the website, such as those for Universal and Paramount's centennial, as well as some other things for the Community that I've needed to do for a while...well, when I'm not taking time off for myself, naturally. Heh heh.

But yeah, that's my little update for y'all. 2012 is shaping up to be a good year for us. Stay tuned.

New year, new features

December 31, 2011

Hey guys.

With 2011 almost in the books, I just wanted to say, first off, thank you for making the relaunch of this website such an astounding success. When I was putting this thing together back in late June/early July, I never expected it to take off as quickly as it did, even for something as anticipated as the relaunch of one of the oldest sites in the Community.

Also, thank you to those who have been contributing to the website; you have definitely been a major step in the rebuilding of the Collection and I can't thank you enough for that, especially since the site has such a limited staff.

Now, for the year ahead, being the tinker-er (is that a word? Whatever haha) that I tend to be, I want to add some stuff to the website that will make functionality a lot better.

One of these things is category sorting for listings.

As of right now, all the jingle entries in the system are listed on one page, and it's quite a long page considering we have over 200 entries and growing. The addition of category sorting will allow you to just see the entries in a particular category. For instance, suppose you're looking around and want to see entries that only belong to a television network. Well, you can click on the "Television Network" link and all the entries from that particular category will be listed; nothing more, nothing less.

Another feature that I'm looking at is local video playback. Right now, all the video on the website is handled by YouTube, which works quite well so far. However, I do acknowledge that some of you might want to download the video for your personal collection or use in whatever media you work with. What local video would do, then, is have the video for an entry on this server and playback would be handled by a media player on this server.

This is more a luxury rather than a thing of necessity like category sorting is, so I want your input on the video situation; leave a comment on this post telling me what you think about it.

I also might implement "clean URLs" but that will require a load more work on the backend (and WILL require that the site go down for a period of time so I could implement it), so that's more on the "maybe" list than anything else would be.

If you have any suggestions on things I should add to the site, or if you want to be an editor on the website, my email address is in the footer of the website (middle column) and, yes, I read every email that comes to my inbox (so don't think I'm blowing your message off haha)

Well, that's all I got for today. Have a Happy New Year, everyone! :D

The Curse of the Unknown Composers

November 3, 2011

Dun dun dun...

Okay, it's not as dramatic as that, but it's still not the most pleasant of things...

A lot of the entries on the website have missing composer information, and while it doesn't affect how the jingles are played on the website, it can bring up a few questions as to who did what and so on...

If you would like to view which ones are missing information, I have generated a list here - - that you can look at. If you have composer information to add, or any other information for that matter, go to that jingle's page and click the "send us an email" link for that entry.

Of course, we won't be able to find composers for all of them...I mean, last time I checked, the MGM lion isn't exactly a musical composition, but I digress. :P

200 Jingle Entries!!!

September 29, 2011

After a little over two months online, I am proud to say that we've hit 200 entries on this website!

Yes, we still have more to go (as one user so eloquently pointed out to me), but we'll be there soon enough (and then some)!!!

Some (small) changes are a'comin!!!

September 15, 2011

This Sunday, I posted a tease (more or less) announcing that I was going to be adding an image correction form for the Collection.

That form can be found here -

In addition, I've decided to change the contribution form a tiny bit...

Previously, submissions were handled by a company named JotForm, but the problem is that their free plan (which I was using, due to cost reasons) is restictive of how many submissions can be received in a month, in addition to the storage space that we can use for said submissions.

Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but recently, people have been spamming the contribution form, thus causing the risk of people who actually HAD a legitimate submission to send in to not be able to send them in.

Therefore, I have localized - meaning placing it on the server I use - the contribution form so that this will never become an issue, and I'll be able to retreive and store submissions all the more easier. Win win for everybody!

I'll be updating the site-wide links for the contibution form here soon, but in the meantime, you can access the form by going here:

Submissions sent to the old system will be accepted UNTIL SEPTEMBER 26TH. After that, any submissions sent to JotForm will be declined.

Finally, I'm looking for ideas on what to add to the site in a potential update, and I want you to help. Take a few minutes and complete the site satisfaction survey - - so I can know what you'd like to see and what you think of the site.

Thank y'all so much!! :D

Better Quality Images? We'd like that, yes...

September 11, 2011

I'm sure if you've been going through our catalog, you've noticed that some of the images on some entries could use some work.

This has been brought to my attention a few times, but being so busy with school, I haven't had a whole lot of time to really work on a solution for people to submit better quality images...

Well, seeing as I'm at my parents' house this weekend (cause who doesn't like a home cooked meal?), I decided that I would start working toward implementing a solution...

Please note that this script will NOT be an immediate thing, but will be up before the end of fall...

I'll update you all as soon as I can. Thanks!

RSS Feed Now Available

August 30, 2011

I'm rather sleepy, so I'm just going to post the link to it and call it a night :P

Please note that only the 10 most recent entries will be shown on the RSS feed. The feed updates whenever a new entry is added to the database.

Enjoy :)

The Submission Queue

August 19, 2011

This might be considered the elephant in the room...or the database. Whatever.

Anyway, some of you might be wondering where your submissions went, since they haven't been put on the website just yet. Well, calm down, I still have them.

The reason I haven't placed them on the website as of yet is that I've been extrordinarily busy with personal matters, such as my recent move to Norman for school.

Now that I'm here, however, I can say that I will be able to finally process the submission queue this coming weekend (provided JotForm, the service that manages the Submission Form, is working properly) and get the valid submissions on the website.

PLEASE NOTE, though, that if I sent you an email back saying that your entry will not be added, expect just that. And yes, I've had to send a couple of those out. Hopefully they'll be fewer and farther between as the website matures.

If you have any questions, send a message through the contact form and I will get back to you just as soon as I can.

Thanks! :D
